A five day training programme on Bee Keeping was organized at KrishiVigyan Kendra Fatehgarh Sahib on 12-19.2.2018. A total of 25 participants from different villages of the district attended the training programme. Dr. Harinder Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.) of KVK, Fatehgarh Sahib said that Bee Keeping has empowered the rural youth by imparting the knowledge and skill regarding bee keeping Venture. This would also help for regular income and make them economically independent.
Dr. ReetVerma Assistant Professor(Plant Protection) has acquainted the traineesregarding identification of different stages of honey bees, life cycle of different cast of honey bees, seasonal management, bee flora bee enemies, diseases and their management, starting bee keeping, migration of bee boxes, honey extraction and processing. She also imparted the practical skills on examination of honey bee colonies providing artificial feed to honey bees, management of mites and wax moths, how to divide a strong honey bee colony and method of uniting 2 weak colonies, fumigation of extra combs etc.. Dr. Manisha Bhatia,Assistant Professor (Home science) acquainted the participants with packing, labeling and marketing of honey for retail. On the concluding day of the training a councilor from lead bank of State Bank of Patiala was also invited to give the information regarding different loan facilities provided by bank. Also, a progressive bee keeper , S. Kulwinder Singh Jallowalinteracted with the trainees. He shared his experiences and gave his valuable suggestions regarding this entrepreneur.
