KrishiVigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a vocational training on ‘Dairy Farming’ from 09.07.2018 – 20.07.2018 for farmers, farm women and rural youth. Twenty nine farmers (23 males and 6 females) belonging to different villages of districts Fatehgarh Sahib, Ropar, Patiala and Sangrur participated in the training course. In this training programme scientific knowledge on various aspects of dairy farming was imparted for skill development of farmers for their economic upliftment. Dr. S. C. Sharma, Associate Director (Training) interacted with the trainees and enlightened them about the importance of dairy sector. He encouraged the participants for adopting dairy farming as allied business on the scientific lines. On the first day after registration and welcome address a knowledge test was administered to check the knowledge level of trainees about dairy farming. Dr. Ajay Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Sc.) gave technical knowhow on various aspects of dairy farming including breeds of cattle and buffalo, selection of dairy animals, care and management of newly born calves and dairy animals, housing management, water management & control of endo & ecto parasites, record keeping, artificial insemination.
Dr. Parminder Singh, Assistant Prof. (Animal Science), KVK Patiala discussed about the balanced feeding, fodder management & silage preparation, mineral supplementation and challenges of dairy farming. Sh. Sanjeev Sharma, DDM, NABARD delivered a lecture on NABARD schemes and Sh. Surender Bansal, Chief Manager Lead Bank Sirhind elaborated about various loan schemes for the welfare of small and marginal farmers. S. Charanjit Singh, Dairy Inspector explained different government schemes of Dairy Development Board. Dr. Sanjeev Kohli, Veterinary Officer delivered lecture on diseases & vaccination schedule. Dr. Manisha Bhatia, Assistant Professor (Home Sc.) also delivered lecture on value addition to milk, commercial production of milk products and gave demonstration of milk products. An exposure visit of the participants was organized at Cheema Dairy Farm, village Gunia Majri, Fatehgarh Sahib & Mira feed plant, Sirhind. The vocational training programme concluded with the motivation by Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director, KVK Fatehgarh Sahib to the trainees to adopt this as an enterprise to supplement the family income. A progressive dairy farm woman Smt. Manpreet Kaur, Dhilloan Sahewal Cow Farm of village Dedran of district Fatehgarh Sahib shared her experience with trainees. Overall the participants expressed good interest & share useful information regarding dairy farming.
