Now days’, burning of wheat and Paddy straw is a big issue. There are different technologies to manage this issue; among all these technologies sowing of wheat with Happy Seeder is one of the most multi benefited techniques. To disseminate this technology Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib conducted demonstrations on various locations in district since 2009. This year KVK, FGS also covered 80 acres area under Happy Seeder. For wide awareness of this technology Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh organized Harvest Field Days at four villages of the district near wheat harvesting days. This event was firstly conducted on S. Surjit Singh’ Happy Seeder field at village Sadhugarh.

His field was the first field among the Punjab on which this technology was tested. His fields were having Clay soil, so he has also introduced rain gun to modify to made this technology successful. He is using this technology from last ten years and now he has started using this technique on his entire land of 45 acres. Regularly he observed by soil testing that the organic carbon of his soil has been doubled and also the use of fertilizers and total cost of cultivation (approximately Rs. 2500-3000/ acre) has been declined. He also shared that the grain of this crop is bold as compare to conventional sown crop which effects the total yield. S. Jagwinder Singh of village Badhauchhi Kalan also experienced the same as he is using this technique for last six years when KVK, FGS conducted the same field day at his Happy Seeder Plot. After that S. Sukhwinder Singh of village Sadomajra and S. Satnam Singh of village Attapur has shared their experience as they used this technology for the first time when the Harvest field day was conducted at their plots. They both observed that the total number of irrigations, weeds and water lodging is less in this crop as compare to conventional crop.

All these farmers also motivate the other farmers to use Happy Seeder for the sowing of wheat. Dr. Harinder Singh, Associate Director KVK, Fatehgarh Sahib interact all these farmers on field Days to spread their massage amoung the others who are present at their fields. He also explained about the ill effects of burning of Wheat and paddy straw & shared the benefits of non-burning of wheat and paddy straw. He advised the farmers to adopt the PAU recommended technologies to manage the Wheat and Paddy straw. All the KVK faculty members were present there to guide the farmers.
