Keeping in view the importance of breastfeeding for the newborn as well as mother a series of activities were organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Fatehgarh Sahib under the aegis of ICAR and PAU. Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal Deputy Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Fatehgarh Sahib gave information that various activities were organized for the anganwadi Workers, CDPOs, farm women and adolescent girls to generate awareness about the importance of colostrums for the newborn, exclusive breastfeeding for first six month of life and complimentary feeding for the children above 6 months of age.
Giving details of the activities Dr. Manisha Bhatia Assistant Professor (Home Science) informed that one-day training programme was organized for the supervisors and anganwadi workers who are in direct contact with the lactating women in the rural areas in which inputs were given regarding the importance of right posture of the mother and child while feeding the child. The emphasis was also given on the hygienic practices to be followed by mother during lactation. Awareness camps were organized for the rural women in different villages to promote the healthy and nutritious complimentary foods for 6 months and balanced diet for lactating mothers.
Slogan writing competition was organized on the Theme Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life in which adolescent girls from Government Senior Secondary School village Badali Ala Singh participated and prepared slogans. Emphasis during the celebration was also laid on the complete vaccination of the children.
